Its Raining Again

It is raining again, but I have had a lovely day - a very relaxing one!  I have been doing some knitting whilst watching an old film (A passage to India).  I didn't get to finish the film as there was a blackout but I did get quite a way with my knitting.  I am feeling quite pleased with myself as I am attempting a new pattern
(I usually stick to very easy straight type knitting) using circular needles and I have had to learn a few new things.  I have finished the trickiest bits and it has turned out pretty well.  Of course I did make a bit of a mistake which I couldn't figure out so I just knitted over the top of it and you can't really notice  - never mind (Wabi Sabi!!)

Oh yeah, Sunny has a fringe now.  She can see better and it looks very cute! Django also has had a hair cut, his beautiful blond locks are gone (but so are the nits!)

Point Lookout

We went to Point Lookout.  The views are magnificent.  You can see all the way to the sea.  It is very high up too, and quite cold!!!

I think this is the Bellinger Valley - up Thora way.

MMMMM Food....

When I'm not sure what else to do, I tend to garden or cook.  That always needs doing and I do like to do it.  Today I picked the last few masssive Zuccinis from the garden.  Tonight I am going to cook this....

It is Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall's Zuccini and Rice Filo pie - recipe is here.

For breakfast I have been making this Nut and Seed Granola (recipe from Soule Mamma's blog)  for the past few months. I love it, especially with some good vanilla yoghurt and blue berries or strawberries (I have to wait for them to come back in!)

My other latest  food  fad is cream cheese with Sweet Tomato Chutney on sour dough bread with lettuce. I could eat it every day (and I have been!!)  I made the chutney last week and there is not much left - it is from the food of India cookbook.

Save the Reef,Save the world

Seeing images of the enormous mines in Australia makes me think of big open gaping wounds, wounds that will never heal.  They also put dark and gloomy images of a 'Mad Max', 'The Road' type of life not too far down the track.  Such rape and pillage is sure to have dire consequences for the earth and its inhabitants.  To me it seems like this boom is just a big greedy race for money - (ridiculous amounts of money for only a few people) with little thought for the environment now or in the future, with little thought  for what these resources are being used for, with little thought for the communities in which the mines are.....   The scary thing is that plans for more and more mines are in place.   While many of us are trying our best to live a simple, sustainable life which treads gently on the earth - it seems unfair that this is going on and there is not much we can do.

Not sunshiny thoughts today!!

PS Do you think Gina Rinehart or Clive Palmer have read the Lorax?  Maybe they should be bombarded with copies..... (although they might be too daft to make the connection!!)

A rebellious Sunflower

A self seeded sunflower has broken the rules in the garden.

It did not believe it couldn't flower at the beginning of winter.

It decided to go ahead and  flower anyway.

Doesn't it look beautiful all alone just standing there.  It wasn't even a sunny day.

Four mums, nine kids.....fun camping!

Sunset, a fire and a few beers....what could be better?

The weather was glorious!  Hardly a cloud in the sky!

This womanly tree stump made a great table, bench, place to lie....

I have never seen a beach so completly covered in crab holes.  It was like walking on a very soft massuer sandle.

Hours were spent wandering the beach,  digging holes, making things, finding crabs, shells and swimmming. The water was beautiful.

This is the amazing drip castle machine.  Water and sand running off a cliff made a constant drip castle.

All good things come to an end, time to leave the beach, pack up camp and go home.
All in all a lovely weekend away.  I love camping - it is a chance to really revel in the simple pleasures of life - a hot cup of tea in the morning whilst sitting around the fire, the feeling of the warm sun on your back, swimming in the sea, beach combing, being outside all day, an arvo beer by the fire, watching the kids explore and delight in the treasures of the beach.

Now (again) I am fantasizing about travelling around the country.  I like the idea of going on tour in one of these......
