I was watching Rage in the wee hours the other week and these two songs came on and I liked them and scribbled down their names and later looked them up on You-Tube. I have been listening to the first one quite a lot (over and over in fact) - i love it when a song gets you inside and you want to keep hearing it!! I think it reminds me of days gone by. The next one also reminds me of something, not sure what but i like it too.
I often find the best motivation for getting out the sewing machine is making a last minute birthday present. These last minute makes are often the ones I like the best too! This bag was inspired by the song 'Yellow Bird' - (from the movie The Sapphires) which the birthday girl and I have been singing lately.
I hope she likes it!
This is (one of) my latest favourite foods - Vietnamese style coleslaw (as opposed to coldsore which is what I thought coleslaw was called when I was a kid!).
All picked fresh from the garden - cabbage, carrot, shallots, Vietnamese mint, coriander, mint.
Then mix up the dressing:
* 2 tbsp lime juice
* 1.5 tbsp fish sauce
* 1 tbsp rice wine vinegar
* 1 - 2 tbsp brown sugar
* pinch salt
* clove of crushed garlic
* 1 hot chilli (optional)
I have also been wrapping this salad up in rice paper rolls - yum! Unfortunately the cabbages are coming to an end for this season...I wonder what else i could put this dressing on? Cucumbers perhaps....
I have also been picking a bit of beetroot and recently made this yummy Indian pickle (recipe courtesy of an Indian restaurant in London - via Liz and Claire).
As you can see I am no food photographer .
(Also unless you like it very hot I would put in only 1 tsp of chilli.)

Fi and I were lucky enough to be a part of the Samba-Soul dance parade at the Bello River festival. It was hot, sweaty, feathery fun. The drumming was fantastic and all the women beautiful. It combined four of my favourite things - dancing, making new friends, getting dressed up (green feathers, tulle and fishnets) and music. Yippee. (I felt a bit tired, sore and dishevelled on Sunday though)

Today is a glorious day, the sun is shining, the music is dancy, green tomato chutney simmers on the stove, Sunny is dancing, the boys are playing with a magnet. Life is good.....
I had a great time at the Global carnival last weekend. There were lots of great bands of all sorts and I had the best dance I have had in ages. The weather was a bit grim but we had fun none the less. Some very clever friends did the arty installations which were very cool. Some highlights were Lotek, Dubmarine, The Djangoholix, Mama Kin (with a surprise performance by John Butler) and Public Opinion Afro Orchestra.
