Its Raining Again

 

 

 

It is raining again, but I have had a lovely day - a very relaxing one!  I have been doing some knitting whilst watching an old film (A passage to India).  I didn't get to finish the film as there was a blackout but I did get quite a way with my knitting.  I am feeling quite pleased with myself as I am attempting a new pattern 
 (I usually stick to very easy straight type knitting) using circular needles and I have had to learn a few new things.  I have finished the trickiest bits and it has turned out pretty well.  Of course I did make a bit of a mistake which I couldn't figure out so I just knitted over the top of it and you can't really notice  - never mind (Wabi Sabi!!)

Oh yeah, Sunny has a fringe now.  She can see better and it looks very cute! Django also has had a hair cut, his beautiful blond locks are gone (but so are the nits!)

In one of the buddism for mothers books, the author recommended a zen practise whereby if things are going wrong, each time something annoying or problematic happens you say to yourself "and this"........

Well today I said "and this" . I accidently left these almost finished, only 8 rows to go knitted baby pants on the couch while i helped Sunny on the potty, then the phone rang and then I found Sunny with a knitting needle in her hand. I am sure she enjoyed helping me knit and she did a good job of neatly removing the knitting needle. Unfortunately I am a very unskilled knitter who cannot pick up stitches or anything like that. I have to knit very carefully as I cannot fix any mistakes I make. Luckily my lovely neighbour can. I rode straight around there and she fixed them all up. Now they are being sewed together. They are for Sue's brand new baby boy, only three days old. Congratulations Sue!!!! Hip hip hooray!!

Granny Square Love

I just stumbled upon this site while I was in the midst of crocheting a granny square.  How funny!  I really like the look of this book and there is even a crochet blog tour starting today of more crocheting blogs.  Except instead of actually crocheting more granny squares for sunny's blanket I will waste time looking at other peoples' crochet.  Hmmmmm.....that is the good and bad of the computer - good for ideas, bad for stealing away time.....

It is easier to start than finish!

I love starting a new project but I find finishing them more difficult. These are three projects I am working on but have not yet finished. I have made about 68 squares for Sunny's bedspread which is pretty good but I need to do heaps more!  I've nearly finished the knitted pants, then i'll get back to the embroidery. After that  I want to make these wings for Sunny, a new skirt for summer and some presants for friends......more ideas than time!

Granny Squares for Granny and Sunny

Happy Birthday Granny (for yesterday)! Granny would have turned 96 (i think) yesterday. Without really realising it, I do have a lot in common with Granny! I wonder if without Granny's influence I would have still liked crochet so much??? It feels like something I have discovered on my own but really I have been surrounded by crochet and knitting my whole life. Every chair and bed in Granny's house had either a crochet rug or cushion (or both) on it! Sunny is sleeping right now under a blanket Granny made. Anyway I have recently started making granny squares to make into a bedspread for Sunny. A big project but there is no hurry! I really like choosing and playing around with the colours. I also find it relaxing to make a square at the end of the day and it is nice to see the pile of squares grow. I know I probably won't be so keen to sew them all together!

I just discovered this blog Eclectic Gipsyland.  It is full of beautiful handmade things, it is amazing what people can make!  It makes my granny squares look very simple and rustic!Oh well, that is what I am I guess!

I finally finished Sunny's rainbow crochet dress. Yipee.

I think when I finish Sunny's crochet dress I might try to knit this vest - maybe in a dark green or maybe better still bright orange!  The pattern is here at Pickles.   I like the way they do their name!!
